15011501 November 14, 1501 - Katherine of Aragon the mother of Mary, marries Arthur, Prince of Wales, the older brother of Henry VIII
 

15021502 April 2, 1502 - Death of Prince Arthur.

A papal dispensation was obtained to enable the younger son Henry to marry the wife (Katherine of Aragon) of his first son Arthur
 


1509 1509 June 11 - King Henry VIII marries Katherine of Aragon
 

15091509 June 24 - Accession of King Henry VIII
 

15161516 - Queen Mary I (1516 - 1558) was born in Greenwich to the great joy of her parents
 

15261526 King Henry VIII becomes totally obsessed with her mother's lady-in-waiting Anne Boleyn with whom he falls madly in love. He finds a flaw in his marriage to Katharine of Aragon based on the text in Leviticus 'If a man shall take his brother's wife it is an unclean thing... they shall be childless.' (Leviticus, XX, 21)
 

15321532 Anne Boleyn becomes pregnant
 

15331533 Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury grants the annulment of the parents of Mary, Katharine of Aragon and King Henry VIII. 1533 January 25th - King Henry marries Anne Boleyn and is excommunicated by Pope Clement VII. Katherine of Aragon is given the title of the Princess Dowager of Wales (which she refused to acknowledge to the end of her life). She was moved around different castles in England and separated from her daughter Mary, due to her refusal to accept the annulment of her marriage.

Elizabeth , the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and the half-sister to Mary, was born 7 September 1533
 


1534Act of Supremacy: King Henry VIII declared supreme head of the Church of England

23 March: Act of Succession - Only the children of King Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Boleyn were deemed to be his lawful heirs. The title of Princess Mary was reduced to the Lady Mary and she was declared a bastard
 


15361536 January 7 - Katharine of Aragon dies at Kimbolton Castle - Mary was devastated. On May 19th Queen Anne Boleyn was executed on Tower Hill after being accused of treason. incest and witchcraft and on 30th May King Henry VIII married Jane Seymour
 

1537Jane Seymour dies after the birth of a son, the future King Edward VI and Mary's half-brother. Princess Elizabeth and Princess Mary are now both declared bastards
 

15406 January: Marriage between King Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves which is is quickly annulled and on July 28 the 49 year old King Henry marries 19 year old Catherine Howard ( who was a cousin of Anne Boleyn)
 

1542February 13: The marriage between Catherine Howard and King Henry VIII ends in tragedy when Catherine Howard is executed for adultery
 

154312th July: King Henry VIII marries his sixth wife and last wife, Katherine Parr. Mary has had to endure her father discarding her mother and marrying another five women
 

154728 January: The father of Mary, King Henry VIII dies and her young, Protestant half brother is proclaimed King Edward VI
 

15536 July: Her half brother, King Edward VI, dies leaving the throne to Protestant 'Lady Jane Grey and her heirs male' instead of Mary
July 10: Lady Jane Grey is proclaimed Queen of England. The people of England support Mary, as the rightful heir
July 19 Lady Jane Grey was deposed as Queen and Mary finally takes the crown as Queen Mary I of England
 

1554February 12: Lady Jane Grey is executed at the Tower of London under the orders of Queen Mary following the Protestant rebellion, led by Sir Thomas Wyatt

March 18: Mary sends Princess Elizabeth to the Tower under suspicion of being involved in the Wyatt rebellion

May 19: Princess Elizabeth released from the Tower of London

July 25 : Queen Mary I marries Philip of Spain (who becomes King Phillip II of Spain) she was eleven years older than Philip. Mary soon announces that she is pregnant but it is a phantom pregnancy.

England is forced to return to Roman Catholicism by the fanatical Queen Mary

Her hatred of Protestants leads to their persecution and 300 are burnt at the stake leading to her later nickname of Bloody Mary
 


1555Queen Mary reluctantly accepts Princess Elizabeth as heir to the throne
October 16: The Protestant churchmen Latimer and Ridley are burned at the stake
Philip II leaves Mary and returns to Spain
, after unsuccessfully trying to woo her sister Princess Elizabeth
 

1558England loses Calais, last English possession in France

November 17: Queen Mary I dies at St. James's Palace in London
December 14: Her body is interred in Westminster Abbey
