This Henry VIII Timeline details the major dates and events significant to life of King Henry VIII of England. The Henry VIII timeline details his date of birth, details of the dates of his marriages to each of his wives.   • April 2, 1502 - Death of Prince Arthur
  • A papal dispensation obtained to enable Henry to marry the wife (Catherine of Aragon) of his brother Arthur
1503June 25, 1503 - Catherine of Aragon was betrothed to Henry

  • King Henry VIII becomes totally obsessed Anne Boleyn with whom he falls madly in love
1529King Henry VIII dismisses Lord Chancellor Thomas Wolsey for failing to obtain the Pope's consent to his divorce from Catherine of Aragon

  • January 25th 1533 Henry marries Anne Boleyn and is excommunicated by Pope Clement VII
  • Elizabeth , the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn, is born on 7 September 1533. She later becomes Queen Elizabeth I
1533The Act of Appeals aided the constitutional development of England
1534March 23, 1534, Pope Clement VII declared that the marriage of Henry and Katherine of Aragon had indeed been valid.

March 30, Parliament passed the Act of Succession which granted legitimate succession to the throne to the children of Henry and Anne Boleyn and negated the same to any children of Henry and Katherine of Aragon. Opposition to the Act constituted high treason.

King Henry VIII breaks with the Church in Rome and Parliament passes the Act of Supremacy on 3 November 1534, confirming King Henry VIII as Supreme head of the Church of England.

1535Sir Thomas Moore and Bishop Fisher of Rochester are executed for refusing to acknowledge King Henry VIII as head of the Church of England

King Henry VIII badly injures his leg in a jousting accident

1536
  • 1536 January 7 - Queen Catherine of Aragon dies at Kimbolton Castle
  • May 2nd 1536 Queen Anne Boleyn is arrested and taken to the Tower of London
  • May 15th 1536 Queen Anne Boleyn tried for treason, adultery and incest in the Great Hall of the Tower of London
  • May 19th 1536 Anne Boleyn executed on Tower Hill. Anne's body and head were buried in an unmarked grave in the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula
  • Within 24 hours of Anne Boleyn's execution, Jane Seymour and King Henry VIII are formally betrothed
  • On the 30th of May 1536 King Henry and Jane Seymour are married
  • The Dissolution of monasteries in England begins
  • Wales is incorporated into England
1537
  • Jane Seymour dies after the premature birth of a son, the future King Edward VI
  • Princess Elizabeth and Princess Mary, the daughters of Henry are declared bastards

  • Henry VIII marries Anne of Cleves but the marriage is annulled
  • July 28th 1540 - 49 year old Henry marries 19 year old Catherine Howard
1540'sHenry VIII created a great chain of coastal fortresses to defend England against the threat of invasion
1541Henry VIII was accorded the title King of Ireland by the Irish Parliament
1542
  • 13th February 1542 - Catherine Howard is executed for adultery
1542Warfare renewed between France and Scotland
1543
  • 12th July 1543 - Henry marries Catherine Parr
1545 / 6French landings on the English coast
1547
  • King Henry VIII dies 28 January 1547 at Palace of Whitehall
  • He was buried at Windsor next to Jane Seymour
